The 'English Friends' Programme

Every summer, we welcome dozens of overseas students to our centres where we connect them with like-minded British teenagers, the 'English Friends'. This is our most popular programme, by far. The English teenagers act as mentors to the international visitors, which looks great on their CV. Some English Friends repeat the experience year on year, and many of them tell us they've kept in touch with the international students, making friends for life!

We are always looking for chatty, outgoing teenagers in your area to spend time with overseas high school students during the summer. If this sounds like you, keep reading!

What will I do?
You will take part in many different types of activity: day trips, evening games and social activities, communication games, creative or sport workshops, helping the overseas students during English language lessons. English Friends are paid expenses per session. A variety of activities and mentoring opportunities means you will have fun, but also add to your CV at the same time.

Register your interest and we will contact you closer to the summer for a chat, then send you an application form.
Who can take part?
This programme is open to those aged 14+, with under 14s by invitation only. Many of our ‘English Friends’ are members of Host Families who welcome the students to their homes. We also welcome applications from students taking part in schemes such as work experience, Duke of Edinburgh, or those who just think it's a fun thing to do.
How much time do I need to commit?
As much or as little as you'd like! English Friends is flexible around your commitments with afternoon, evening and weekend sessions available. English Friends receive a certificate of participation, if they attend a minimum of 3 sessions.
